What is the PTA?

PTA is a private, not-for-profit service organization. The National PTA, of which all local units are members, is the largest volunteer organization advocating on the behalf of children. The organization was founded in 1897 in Washington DC as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst. PTA's mission is:

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
  • To raise the standards of home life
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united effort as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education

  • The PTA committee list has been updated. If you are interested in volunteering, please note the committee with OPEN positions. Contact our PTA presidents if you are interested!
